Cleve Taylor.
Cleve is the “Cowboy Carver” of the Pacific Northwest.
Many of his carvings are western scenes and they usually depict
the cowboy in humorous situations. The cowboy doesn’t see
the humor in this dentist’s office scene, but his horse apparently
does. This basswood carving is finished in light acrylic washes.
It is 12 1/2” tall, including the 7 1/4” x 12 1/4” base.

Dennis Thornton.
Dennis’ style of caricature is to create carvings in which
the subjects have exaggareated physical attributes. Dennis loves
peoples’ reactions to his work. He has won many awards for
his carvings, including “Best of Shows” and “Peoples
Choice.” “Tall Tales,” an unpainted basswood carving
of a pilot, is a classic example of his style. The carving is 11
1/2” tall including 6” x 3 1/2” base. Additional

Travis. Bob, a soon to be retired Professor in the College of
Agriculture at the University of California, Davis enjoys carving
the American
cowboy in humorous situations. In this carving the cowboy “Pleads
the Fifth” when questioned by his wife as to his earlier whereabouts.
The basswood carving is 9” tall including the 9” x 13” base.

Tom is best known for his highly successful series of over 50
books on caricature carving. His Appalachian carving style
typically places
both people and animals in humorous situations. In this carving
the old duffer is clearly satisfied with his shot. This 10

Joe You. Joe,
a life-long art student, has interests in many art forms including
portrait drawing, Chinese brush painting, calligraphy, stained
glass,
cartooning, and pottery. Most recently he studied cartoon animation
and clay animation at the Disney Institute. Joe’s carvings
certainly reflect his extensive background in art. These Santa’s,
while less than 2” in height, are faithful examples of Joe’s
