Dennis tested his skill by entering his first carving competition. There were five entries in his category and four awards given. He did not receive one of those four awards. He did come away with knowledge. During the course of the show, he found each competition piece and talked to his competitors. He asked the judges for a critique of his entry and their thoughts on how to improve. The following year, Dennis won First place in his category and First in his division. Dennis continues to test his talents by entering carving competitions around the country and to display his sculptures at exhibits and galleries. His carvings have been very well received and have garnered Best of Show, People’s Choice, and Carver’s Choice Honors. Dennis and his wife, Susan, enjoy teaching carving and painting in their studio in Guilford, New York. They also travel to teach seminars around the country. Dennis was inducted into the Caricature Carvers of America
in 2000. He is a past Treasurer and is currently the Vice President.
